EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE
(EFT/TAPPING)

EFT (emotional freedom technique) is one of the most exciting, powerful techniques developed over the last two decades. It is also commonly known as 'tapping'.

It is one of the new ’Energy Psychologies’ with its roots in acupuncture, kinesiology and psychology. Negative emotions and traumatic events create a blockage in the energy pathways in the body (meridians). These blockages create a form of negative charge in the system and in turn, produce the unwanted emotional or physical response. By tapping on specific acupuncture points while we work on the problem, we're able to remove the negative charge. Its almost like clarinet a log that's blocking a stream, the log being the stuck emotion/behaviour or traumatic event. Once cleared, the upset it usually resolved -the memory remains but the emotional charge has gone.

EFT (combined with the other therapies I use) is quite a 'fast' form of therapy - you are not looking at months of sessions to help with issues. By using EFT within our session it provides a safe and gentle support when working on events that may deep rooted or have been traumatic, preventing painful 'reliving' of past events. it is very effective and often used with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

When working on emotional/therapy related issues, I combine all of the therapies into the session to provide an extremely effective form of treatment. I rarely use hypnosis on its own, especially at the start of working together, however, I sometimes use it towards the end of treatment if we both feel it is necessary.

"The case of all negative emotion is a disruption in the body's energy system - our unresolved negative emotions are major contributors to most physical pains and diseases."

Origins of EFT

The founder of EFT, Gary Craig trained with psychologist Roger Callaghan, who had been studying kinesiology and acupuncture. Callaghan had found that an anxiety patient of his felt her anxiety about water in her stomach, so using his recently learned knowledge, he had her tap on a stomach acupuncture point below her eye, and to his astonishment, she proclaimed that her fear had gone and she rushed to his swimming pool to feel the water! Years later, her fear of water

had never returned.

After many such ‘miraculous’ cures, where other methods had failed, Callaghan developed TFT - Thought Field Therapy, working with the body’s meridian pathways. He developed specific algorithms for each symptom or issue. Gary Craig, searching for the simplest way to use this therapy, found that 14 points were always included in each algorithm, irrelevant of the presenting symptom, so tried just tapping these points for every single problem. The results were outstanding

and EFT was born.
